Description | "Elaborate Dishes from a Prominent Mexican Family": manuscript cookbook containing thirty-six recipes written in at least two different hands. Recipes include ensalada reyena, el guaracho, cabritos en adobo, guisado de pichones, caldillo de piñas, cajetas de chirimoya y garbanzo. According to inserted sheet which provides additional information, the name Montes de Oca was of a prominent Mexican family of the time. These are probably family recipes written out for a young lady by the older women of the family. The recipes are elaborate although they include many traditional Mexican ingredients so probably intended for guests or special occasions. |
