Description | A handwritten mathematical primer dates to the time that the Nashville Female Academy was in existence, from 1816 to soon after the end of the Civil War. There is one date in the book for "1863 June" on one of the recipe pages, though the primer may date to an earlier year. The verso of the leaves have recipes written on them, and include recipes: for pickles, French tooth powder, current jelly, grape lotion for sunburn and freckles, doughnuts, Strawberry ice cream, Harrison cakes. Recipes also featured from Jane Melton, Lady fingers, Sally Lunn, and Crulls.
