Additional Information | Items dated at Melrose, Mississippi and at "Old Fields", Maryland in 1862-1863 are found on pages 56-58. Some items dated at Filston (?), Maryland. Includes additional sheets and slips (some folded) mounted, tipped, or (in one case) pinned in. Includes recipes for "Rebel Sugar Cake" (page 22), "Rebel Pudding" (page 23), "Rebel Wine" (pages 24, 58), and "Rebel Toilette Soap" (page 31). Most recipes appear to have originated in Northern Maryland, Old Fields, Glencoe, and especially Filston. One recipe was handed down from author's grandmother, who lived on the Melrose plantation near what is Natchez, Mississippi. Author may have lived on Filston plantation. Originally was titled "Melrose Receipt." |
